WWE Releases Sawyer Fulton

NXT wrestler Sawyer Fulton has been released from his contract with WWE. He had been with the company since 2012.

Despite the setback, Fulton says he intends to be back in WWE one day. He put out a statement on Twitter which says, “After my injury I worked as hard as possible to come back, and it just happened to not work out.”

Fulton continued, “However, I’m not ashamed of being released by any means, I held nothing back and at the end of the day I’m happy to leave with my head held high. I’m going to continue to work hard as possible and learn all I can in wrestling, nothing changes but the name. The last thing I said to Canyon and Coach Bloom was that I’m still young and I will be back in WWE and I fully intend to prove it.”

Before joining WWE, Fulton, whose real name is Jacob Southwick, was a Greco-Roman All-American and a two-time NCAA All-American amateur wrestler at Ashland University. He began pro wrestling in 2010 for Mid-Ohio Wrestling and was signed by WWE two years later. He made his televised NXT debut in May 2013, where he appeared as an enhancement talent in a tag team match against Erick Rowan and Luke Harper. He then continued to make sporadic televised appearances on NXT as an enhancement talent over the next three years, often as part of a tag team with Angelo Dawkins.

In March 2016, Fulton formed a tag team with Alexander Wolfe at NXT live events. In September 2016, Fulton and Wolfe founded SAnitY along with Eric Young and Nikki Cross. Fulton, however, was forced to leave the group in December due to injury. He returned to action in May but was not used on television again.

Despite his lack of success with WWE, he will be forever be immortalized in video game form as he is a playable character in WWE 2K18.
