Alberto Del Rio and WWE have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release, the sports-entertainment organization announced Friday morning.
Referring to Del Rio by his real name, Jose Rodriguez, the company’s statement is as follows:
WWE releases Alberto Del Rio
STAMFORD, Conn. — WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.
Minutes after WWE made the formal announcement, Del Rio issued this statement on Twitter.
My business relationship with @WWE has come to an end in good terms…thanks for the opportunities they gave me.

Shortly thereafter, he retweeted this message from his attorney.
Thank you WWE for honoring my client's request to leave. It was great working with everyone. #albertodelrio @VivaDelRio #prowrestling

The 39-year-old saw his second stint in WWE come to a end three weeks after he was suspended 30 days for his first violation of the Talent Wellness Program. He would have been eligible to return to action next week.
It was reported on Aug. 30 by Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com that Del Rio would not be returning to WWE after his suspension concluded since both sides had come to terms on his release. This would leave him free to work in Mexico and internationally imminently. He would also be free to work in the U.S. in a few weeks.
Focus remains on Paige, Del Rio’s girlfriend, who was suspended on the same day he was. It was reported on Thursday that Paige quit WWE earlier this week and is working with lawyers to negotiate her release.
