– Stampede Wrestling legend Archie “The Mongolian Stomper” Gouldie passed away this afternoon in his sleep at the age of 78. “The Stomper” had been battling Alzheimer’s and recently fell, breaking his hip. He underwent hip replacement surgery but never recovered.
Gouldie, who wrestled all over the world, is considered to be the greatest heel in Stampede history and was one of Bret Hart’s favorite wrestlers as a kid. He scared Bret as a kid when he cut a promo and threatened to destroy the Hart family house while feuding with Bret’s dad Stu Hart. Bret later wrestled Archie and considered him to be one of the best from that era.
