– WWE’s annual Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event took place on September 16 with the Hell in a Cell structure getting a new look.
As first revealed last Saturday via a live stream on WWE’s social channels, the Hell in a Cell structure itself got a new, devilish crimson-red look.
2018 is a special year for Hell in a Cell since it’s the 20th anniversary of Mick Foley’s infamous fall during a Hell in a Cell Match with The Undertaker at King of the Ring. This could be the driving force behind the revamp according to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, which noted a WWE source surmised Vince McMahon “forgot how old the match was” and felt it needed a change.
Asked about the Red Cell… source said “honestly, w/ all this 20 yr talk about Taker & Foley, I think Vince forgot how old the match was. So he changed it up. Like when Mania lost its roman numerals. Just something new.” Also, they did test for visibility and it’s OK. #WWEHIAC

It’s quite possible that this is a one-time thing since McMahon “didn’t love it” once he saw it assembled at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
