Seth Rollins was set to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against his former Shield “brother” Roman Reigns in a head-to-head battle at Survivor Series, but after Rollins suffered an injury that will keep him out of action for six to nine months, WWE’s most prized possession will now be on the line in a historic tournament.
Roman Reigns is the odds-on favorite to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Survivor Series, according to Paddy Power, an Irish bookmaker.
Betting odds like this are usually correct in giving away what will happen. WWE will make a decision and those in the know in the company will get the smart money in. Either that, or the bookmakers have a contact in WWE. Whatever the case, the bet makers usually get it right. The decision to make Reigns such a heavy favorite suggests a level of certainty, “The Big Dog” will be the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion.’
The second favorite is Brock Lesnar and John Cena is third. However, they are nowhere near as favored as Reigns. It does suggest, however, that WWE has indeed made contact with Lesnar and Cena about returning earlier than planned. It seems likely that the top two stars will return.
The decision to crown Reigns the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion is likely keeping course with what WWE was planning to eventually do. With Rollins now out of action, it looks like WWE will instead have Reigns go over another heel in a bout for the vacant title.
