Last night at Battleground, The Undertaker made his WWE return. He had been rumored to appear during the program, but no one knew what segment and in what manner he would return.
During the main event, which saw WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins face Brock Lesnar, The Phenom was resurrected and made his presence felt. Undertaker had not appeared on WWE programming since he defeated Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 31.
Undertaker seemingly returned to set up a SummerSlam bout with Lesnar. Near the end of the Lesnar vs. Rollins match, the infamous gong hit, the lights went out, and Undertaker appeared in the ring. He then stared down Lesnar before hitting him with both the chokeslam and Tombstone Piledriver, twice.
Following Battleground, Dave Meltzer mentioned on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has decided on who Undertaker will face at WrestleMania 32—Meltzer did not reveal who that person in. This means whatever happens at SummerSlam will give us an indication on what happens later.
If Undertaker works a match with Lesnar at SummerSlam, this will be the first match he’s wrestled at the event since 2008, where he defeated Edge in a Hell in a Cell Match.
The Phenom is reportedly appearing during tonight’s Monday Night Raw in Kansas City, Missouri to continue setting up this storyline. It appears as if Undertaker may have one more shot to defeat Lesnar, which he’s only ever done via count-out during an episode of SmackDown in 2002.
