Sable is undoubtedly one of the greatest pioneers WWE has ever seen. Never before had one woman combined such athleticism and sex appeal to become a major force both in and out of the ring.
Sable’s earliest days in WWE (then known as the World Wrestling Federation, or WWF) were spent by the side of Hunter Hearst Helmsley, but when he began to mistreat the fair-haired starlet, Marc Mero ran to her aid. For the better part of the next two years, the loving couple shared a strong bond both on and off television.
By 1998, the spotlight began to shine brightest on Sable, leaving Mero’s star to fade. Jealous of her popularity, Mero tried everything in his power to dim her bright career. But there was no holding back Sable and she eventually broke free from his grasp.
On her own, Sable went on to achieve never-before-seen success. Her first step toward greatness was capturing the WWF Women’s Championship from Mero’s new lady, Jacqueline, at Survivor Series 1998. The new champ rode her popularity all the way to Hollywood, landing guest roles on television programs such as Pacific Blue, Relic Hunter and First Wave.
Sable’s surge into the mainstream media exploded when she posed nude for the April 1999 issue of Playboy.
