WWE has released NXT wrestler Nick Miller.
According to a report by Pro Wrestling Sheet, WWE released Miller from his contract last week. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline also confirmed his release.
Meltzer said Saturday night on Wrestling Observer Radio that Miller asked to released from his contract. He returned to Australia when his child was born there and ultimately decided to stay. It was said that the door is not shut on him returning to WWE if he chooses to.
After word got out of his release, Miller tweeted this photo of himself with his newborn child.
Shane Thorne, Miller’s former tag team partner, is still under contract to WWE. We heard that WWE plans to give him a strong singles push in NXT.
Before joining WWE in 2016, Miller and Thorne were known as Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste of The Mighty Don’t Kneel (TMDK for short). They achieved their greatest success in Pro Wrestling Noah from 2011 to 2016, where they won the GHC Tag Team Championship twice.
They started in NXT in April 2016 as babyfaces under their real names. The following month, they were renamed Nick Miller and Shane Thorne, respectively, while TMDK was renamed TM-61, where TM is derived from their respective last names (Miller and Thorne) while 61 is from Australia’s dial code (+61). They debuted on the May 25 episode of NXT, losing to Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa.
They got a solid push, but it came to a halt when Thorne suffered a knee injury in January 2017. Miller didn’t appear again until June 2017, at which point he worked some singles matches at house shows. Thorne returned to the ring in September 2017, but they wouldn’t return to television until January. They feuded with The Street Profits, Heavy Machinery and The War Raiders in the ensuing months. They turned heel in the spring and got renamed The Mighty.
Their last appearance together took place at the November 28 NXT television tapings, where they lost to Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan. The match aired on last week’s episode of NXT.
