Lilian Garcia has reportedly not been released by WWE.
According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, sources close to Garcia say her father was having major complications in his battle with cancer and WWE approved her taking an emergency leave of absence. Company officials went out of their way to help the ring announcer be by his side and have been constantly checking in on things.
Her father’s health has improved in the past few days and she plans to return to the road beginning this Monday when Raw emanates from Greensboro, North Carolina.
Satin adds Garcia has been incredibly gracious for WWE’s support.
Rumors of Garcia being let go arose Friday after former WWE creative writer Court Bauer claimed on MLW Radio that the tenured ring announcer was released as part of the organization’s recent wave of veteran talent cuts.
After co-host John Pollock brought up Garcia’s tweet about returning to Raw this Monday, Bauer said he spoke to a source at WWE just before he recorded the podcast and was told that she was “quietly let go” last week. Bauer, however, then claimed that she was “notified that they’re not going to renew” her contract when it expires.
WWE has not issued an official statement regarding Garcia’s status with the company. In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said he received confirmation from WWE about Christian being released from his performer’s contract, but they had yet to respond to his inquiry “regarding Garcia.”
