Diamond Dallas Page, a three-time World Heavyweight Champion in WCW, will take his rightful place in wrestling history when he is inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2017.
This is according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, who confirmed news of his induction on Tuesday. His induction appeared likely this year since WWE will be releasing a Blu-ray and DVD on DDP in March.
Page broke into the wrestling business in 1988, as a manager in the American Wrestling Association, where he worked for nine months before joining WCW in 1991. There, he continued as a manager until late 1991, when he became a wrestler. Over a decade in WCW, he became a three-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, two-time WCW United States Heavyweight Champion, four-time WCW World Tag Team Champion and one-time WCW World Television Champion. He is the fourth WCW Triple Crown Champion, and the only United States Heavyweight Champion to defend the title in a pay-per-view main event, defeating Bret Hart at World War 3 in 1998.
After WCW was sold in 2001, Page signed with WWE. He made his pay-per-view debut in the main event of the InVasion pay-per-view and went on to become a one-time WWF European Champion and one-time WWF World Tag Team Champion. He parted ways with the company in 2002 due to a series of injuries. Page ended his full-time career in TNA, where he worked in 2004 and 2005.
While no date for this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony has been set, it is expected to take place on the Friday before WrestleMania. The event will be held at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
Johnson also speculated that Goldberg could be inducted this year since many people in WWE believe it will happen.
