Did Rusev ask to be released from WWE?
Dave Meltzer reported last week in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Rusev was moved from the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal to the United States Championship Match with titleholder Randy Orton, Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode due to strong “Rusev Day” merchandise sales. While that’s probably the case, he may have added to the match for another reason.
Before being added to the match, Rusev pushed to be released from his WWE contract because he wasn’t happy with how he was being used, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com. Johnson, however, couldn’t confirm the rumor with a second source and whether he was added to the match due to his apparent unhappiness.
It’s worth noting that on March 2 on Twitter, Rusev joked about being released in response to a WWE poll on the most memorable move of his career.
We're narrowed it down; now YOU get to vote! What is the most memorable move of @RusevBUL's career? #WAMWednesday
