The “Superstar Shake-Up” led to not just wrestlers switching brands from Raw to SmackDown LIVE and vice versa but announcers too. Indeed, Byron Saxton has been moved to the blue brand while David Otunga is now on team red.
We just won’t see him for the next six weeks.
That’s according to WWE.com, who say Otunga landed the lead role in a new action franchise that will keep him away from the announce desk alongside Corey Graves and Michael Cole. That could explain why he missed television this past week and Saxton worked both shows.
The report also teases someone acting as a temporary replacement though it gives no clue as to who that may be.
Here is WWE.com’s announcement:
David Otunga cast as lead in new action franchise, Raw debut delayed
SmackDown LIVE’s David Otunga moved to the Raw announce desk in the Superstar Shake-up Monday night — swapping places with Team Red’s Byron Saxton — but the former WWE Tag Team Champion’s debut alongside Michael Cole and Corey Graves will be delayed for six weeks, as he has been cast in the lead role of a new action franchise, WWE.com has confirmed.
Otunga’s latest film endeavor leaves a temporary vacancy on the Raw commentary team. Who will serve as his replacement?
Stay with WWE.com as more information becomes available on both David’s new movie role and the immediate future of the Raw announce team.
