Big Cass’ release from WWE on Tuesday was due, in large part, to “personal conduct issues.”
According to a report tonight by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, multiple sources in WWE say that Cass was often intoxicated during the company’s tour of Europe last month (he worked shows from May 10th to the 20th).
“Cass was drinking the majority of the European tour and had attitude issues when drunk,” Barrasso wrote. “Being intoxicated in public is one of the underlying reasons the WWE office was down on Cass.”
Barrasso also notes that up until recently, Cass “was a favorite of Vince McMahon’s.”
WWE issued a brief statement on his release, simply announcing, “WWE has come to terms on the release of William Morrissey (Big Cass).”
Cass impressed WWE executives with his match this past Sunday at Money in the Bank against Daniel Bryan. Although he had heat with the office, a lot of people in WWE were surprised that he was let go.
As reported earlier, McMahon held a private meeting with Cass on Tuesday at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio — a few hours before SmackDown LIVE went on the air — and fired him.
While Cass is said to have impressed management with his performance on Sunday, John Pollock of PostWrestling.com says they were usually unhappy with his wrestling.
“I was told from within the company that several people were unhappy with Cass’ performance in the Big Show feud last summer before his injury,” Pollock noted in his report on Cass’ release.
“That opinion of Cass continued with the recent program with Daniel Bryan and that his release was not that surprising to the person I spoke with.”
While an exact reason for his release has yet to come out, according to @WrestleVotes on Twitter, he recently “pissed someone off bad.”
Asked what happened with Cass. Source is tied up at the moment, however said “Big man pissed someone off, bad”
I also know this happened within the last few hours, not necessarily the “pissing off” but the decision. Not at the PPV as Cass worked the house show last night.
