– The deal between Shane McMahon and Vince McMahon for Shane to return to WWE was reportedly just struck four weeks ago.
The deal was made when Vince realized his original plan of The Undertaker vs. John Cena wasn’t happening, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Vince was said to be devastated when Cena went down with his injury. Vince “had his heart set” on doing the Legend vs. Legend gimmick with Cena and Taker to carry WrestleMania 32.
Cena vs. Taker not happening led to Vince going out of the box for the deal with Shane as he faced criticism that WrestleMania 32 was going to have one of the weakest line-ups and buzz in years.
Current plans have Shane being a short-term performer through WrestleMania season but as we’ve noted, there’s definitely potential for Shane to stick around, and that’s already being speculated within the company. It was noted by The Observer that people are already noting how the family soap opera behind-the-scenes will likely become more interesting than what we see on TV.
