Backstage News on Bill Goldberg’s Deal for the WWE Royal Rumble

As noted, Bill Goldberg has signed on to work the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble main event from the Alamodome in San Antonio. This has not been confirmed but a likely rematch against Brock Lesnar will take place at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE officials were not planning on going in the direction of a rematch until Goldberg signed this new deal in the last week. Goldberg received what was said to be a really “big money” deal for the Rumble. Meltzer speculated that Goldberg “drives a hard bargain” and was able to secure the deal.

Apparently Goldberg is willing to wrestle at that pay rate as long as Vince McMahon will pay it. Similar to how he’s used Lesnar, Vince may continue to use Goldberg as long as he feels Goldberg is over and worth it.
