Originally revealed as Rusev’s social ambassador, Lana quickly proved to be so much more than a diplomat. As the Bulgarian Brute tore through WWE, it became evident that Lana held considerable power, as Rusev rarely released his dreaded Accolade without first being instructed to do so by Lana.
With Lana leading the way, Rusev defeated such top names as Big Show, Mark Henry, and Big E before dethroning Sheamus for the United States Championship in November 2014. Rusev held the title for nearly five months before falling to John Cena at WrestleMania 31, thanks in part to a Lana miscue.
The WrestleMania loss marked the beginning of a public breakup between Lana and Rusev. Once the couple officially split, Lana began a relationship with Dolph Ziggler. And over the next several months, Lana and Ziggler engaged in a bitter rivalry with Rusev and his new partner, Summer Rae.
Amazingly, in October 2015, TMZ reported that Lana and Rusev had put their differences aside and agreed to get married. Together again, the power couple picked up where they left off, intimidating the WWE roster.
In the years that followed, Lana began competing in the ring, including in the Women’s Money in the Bank and Royal Rumble Matches. She continued to support Rusev and celebrated his daily holiday, Rusev Day.
After a split from Rusev, Lana navigated the waters of Monday Night Raw by her lonesome, mixing it up with the likes of Asuka, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax. Her eight-year tenure with WWE came to an end on June 2, 2021 as the company released her from her contract.
