Rey Mysterio is reportedly still in talks with WWE regarding a return to the company.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Live on Thursday, it’s quite possible that Mysterio will resume appearing for the company in September. He has numerous commitments with other wrestling companies lined up through the end of the summer, but he’ll apparently be free in the fall.
Mysterio has made two appearances for WWE this year. He was a surprise entrant in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match in January and then took part in the first-ever 50-Man Greatest Royal Rumble Match in April.
Here is a clip of Mysterio’s shocking return in January, which has garnered over 15 million views on YouTube thus far.
By comparison, Ronda Rousey’s surprise appearance at the event to stare down Women’s Royal Rumble Match winner Asuka, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss has drawn over four million views on YouTube.
In March, Mysterio appeared on Edge and Christian’s podcast and suggested there is mutual interest in the two sides working together in the future:
Mysterio said, “Right now, it’s just a matter of if there is an interest, I really think there is on both ends, as much as from WWE and myself, to eventually go back and do some work with them. I would love to eventually sit down and see if we can come up with a gameplan. I don’t see why that couldn’t happen, so I’m up for it and looking forward to it, to actually sit down and [converse] about some potential work with the company. I’m excited to be able to sit down and come up with a gameplan. And hopefully, that will happen.”
