John Cena got what he wanted and then some when The Undertaker returned to WrestleMania 34 and essentially squashed the 16-time World Champion in just two minutes and 46 seconds.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE officials decided months ago to have Cena face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34, but at some point, realized that The Undertaker wasn’t physically capable of wrestling a long back-and-forth match. The Undertaker’s health was the catalyst for the odd build to the match, with The Undertaker never appearing on Raw to answer Cena’s challenge.
WWE officials actually wanted fans to know The Undertaker would be there against Cena, but downplay the idea it was one of the biggest matches on the show as people would expect it to be with a normal build.
WWE announced Thursday that The Undertaker will take on Chris Jericho in a Casket Match at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia on Friday, April 27. There’s no word yet on what The Undertaker’s wrestling future holds after this match.
