John Cena once again called out The Undertaker. Once again, he did not get his wish as his persistent challenges and social media taunts continue to go unanswered Monday night on the final Raw before WrestleMania 34.
After The Deadman refused to respond to Cena’s WrestleMania challenge, The Cenation Leader plans to attend the show as a fan. Despite that, WWE continues to tease a confrontation between the two at WrestleMania.
Following Raw, WWE.com posted an article recapping Cena’s multiple attempts to get a response from The Undertaker, while adding the following tease:
“So, what now for Cena? With The Undertaker offering no answer to his challenge, perhaps the showdown between the two iconic Superstars is simply not meant to be. Is Cena destined to experience this year’s Showcase of The Immortals as a spectator? Will he aid another Superstar to victory or perhaps offer his expert knowledge of The Grandest Stage of Them All as a guest commentator? Or, is there still a chance that a match between John Cena and The Undertaker may take place? Find out this Sunday at WrestleMania, streaming live on WWE Network at a special start time of 7 ET/4 PT!”
Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter published on Thursday that Cena vs. Undertaker has been planned for WrestleMania 34 for months, and Undertaker has been training for the match.
“Undertaker will obviously be in New Orleans to confront Cena,” Meltzer wrote.
The last word Meltzer got on this bizarre angle, which was on Tuesday, is that from Vince McMahon’s standpoint, he believes that WWE fans know The Undertaker will show up at WrestleMania and this is the “story” that brings him back to “kick Cena’s ass.”
McMahon and other WWE officials are also of the belief that announcing Taker in advance won’t compel anyone to purchase a subscription to the WWE Network, as anyone inclined is getting a subscription for WrestleMania anyway.
“This is Vince McMahon’s story and he seems very happy with it,” Meltzer wrote. “I think part of it is that Vince McMahon can say, `People are invested in the mere chance Undertaker will show up!'”
At this time, Meltzer does not know if they will have a match on Sunday, or just a confrontation to build to a match for WrestleMania next year. He says that original plans for their encounter at WrestleMania 34, which date back several months, was for it to be a match.
