– A fan has set up a GoFundMe account for ECW Original Axl Rotten and thanks to mentions from Chris Jericho and Jim Ross, the page has raised $1,055 of their $12,000 goal by 35 people in 21 days.
Rotten had his back give out on him in late October of last year and since then he has been hospitalized at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland to receive daily physical therapy. Rotten originally hoped he could resume his pro wrestling career and walk again but doctors have now informed him that surgery is unavoidable. Rotten requires two spinal surgeries on his cervical vertebrae and if the surgeries are not a success, doctors say he could spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
Rotten has exhausted all of his medical coverage and cannot pay his bills since he cannot work, which is why they are asking fans for assistance. Rotten also is looking for funds to help make his home wheelchair accessible for when he does get to leave the hospital. The GoFundMe page notes that Rotten is clean of all non-medically prescribed drugs these days and “he is both emotionally and mentally in the best place he has been in years, Unfortunately he is though physically at his lowest ebb.”
Rotten tweeted the following a few days ago:
So when you been sitting in a hospital for close to 7mons it's time to speed this process up. I need to get the spinal surgery. #ecw @WWE
