In light of the terrorist attacks of Paris, France and San Bernardino, California, WWE higher-ups have discussed changing Roman Reigns’ wrestling attire.
Talks started after the attacks in Paris on the night of Nov. 13 by gunmen and suicide bombers, which left 130 people dead and hundreds wounded. Vince McMahon decided then against changing Reigns’ attire, but talk heated up again after the Dec. 2 shooting in San Bernardino, California, which left fourteen people killed and 22 injured in an Islamic extremism-inspired terrorist attack, consisting of a mass shooting (and attempted bombing) at the Inland Regional Center.
Some people in WWE feel that if there continues to be terrorist attacks, the idea of one of its wrestlers wearing tactical gear and emerging from crowd would not be a good image, especially for a top babyface. McMahon, however, feels it would be a knee-jerk overreaction to make a drastic change to Reigns’ character at a time when they’re attempting to cement him as the top babyface in WWE. For now, WWE is taking a “wait and see” approach on the matter since the feeling is that the average fan doesn’t see this connection in Reigns.
