The latest big name rumored to be making his return to WWE is none other than Jeff Hardy.
Rumors of Hardy returning to WWE naturally pop up every now and then, but there seems to be some fire behind the smoke this time.
Jason Powell of ProWrestling.net said Thursday on his weekly premium podcast that Hardy, who appeared at the fourth annual WrestleCade event in Winston-Salem, North Carolina Thanksgiving weekend, was telling people that he is more open to returning to WWE than he has been in recent years.
Powell added that Hardy’s contract with TNA expires shortly before WrestleMania 32 — WrestleMania 32 takes place on April 3, 2016 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
It be should noted that it will be awhile before he can return to the ring. Hardy, who has been unable to wrestle since May due to a broken leg suffered in a dirt bike accident, was telling people at WrestleCade that he will be out of action for another nine months because he has to undergo surgery again.
Hardy left WWE in 2009, ostensibly to heal up from injuries he had accrued over the years from his reckless style of wrestling. Some expected Hardy to return to WWE after a few months, but he turned up in TNA in January 2010, where he remains.
Hardy’s time in TNA has been a roller coaster ride to say the least, with whatever positives there have been swallowed up by his well-documented issues with substance abuse. On September 11, 2009 Hardy was arrested on charges of trafficking in controlled prescription pills and possession of anabolic steroids, after a search of his house yielded 262 Vicodin prescription pills, 180 Soma prescription pills, 555 milliliters of anabolic steroids, a residual amount of powder cocaine, and drug paraphernal. On September 8, 2011, Hardy was sentenced to ten days in jail, 30 months of probation and a fine of $100,000. Hardy served his jail sentence from October 3 to 13, 2011.
That’s all water under the bridge now and Hardy appears to have recovered from his issues with drugs. The time now appears right for the WWE return of “The Charismatic Enigma.”
