Vince McMahon Thinks Cesaro Is Boring

For nearly four decades, Vince McMahon has had the final say on absolutely everything that happens on WWE television. Like anyone else, Vince is able to be talked into doing something that he originally thought was a horrible idea. But there are things, for better or for worse, that he just won’t budge on. Cesaro is one of those things.

WWE signed Cesaro back in 2011, and he finally made his television debut for the company in 2012, after spending roughly seven months in WWE’s developmental promotion, Florida Championship Wrestling.

After Cesaro made his WWE television debut, it looked like WWE had big plans for him, as he was undefeated for quite a while, and he became the United States Champion. However, this was just the first of many Cesaro pushes that was brought to a screeching halt for reasons which are unclear.

Despite WWE’s best effort to cool him off, Cesaro has managed to get the people completely behind him every time he appears at an event. His work is respected by his peers and WWE legends such as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Mick Foley, and Jim Ross.

So, why exactly hasn’t WWE capitalized on Cesaro’s obvious talent? Well, when that question was put to Vince McMahon back in December by Steve Austin, McMahon said that Cesaro has failed to connect with the WWE audience “probably because he’s Swiss.” It was a response that McMahon was heavily criticized for in the following weeks.

On a recent episode of F4WOnline.com’s Bryan and Vinny Show, Bryan Alvarez revealed another reason why WWE, and Vince McMahon in particular, is refusing to get behind Cesaro.

Alvarez, while reviewing the WWE Network show Table for Three — where Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, and Cesaro sat down, discussed their wrestling pasts, and talked about their future in WWE — said that Vince McMahon will not get behind Cesaro because of one reason — he believes that the “Swiss Superman” is boring.

“The craziest thing about Cesaro is . . . you know how he’s great in the ring, and he has great wrestling charisma, and he looks great, and he always wears a suit, and somehow Vince McMahon finds the man boring. That’s the whole reason why he’s not getting a push,” Alvarez said.

WWE’s use of Cesaro has baffled several WWE Hall of Famers. In fact, several weeks ago on Facebook, Mick Foley was asked what he would do if he took over WWE, and his answer was simple, “Push Cesaro.” Foley also added that he’s completely baffled whenever he sees how WWE is using Cesaro.

In a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer pointed out that Vince McMahon is putting Cesaro in a position to fail so that the fans won’t care about him and McMahon can be proven right.

“Every week, [Cesaro] is less and less over. So, it’s like they’re planning it this way,” Meltzer said. “And that’s the thing that boggles my mind, it’s like, ‘this guy is starting to get over,’ and they’re like ‘well, we don’t want him over, so we’ll fix that.’ It’s like they’re back there going, ‘we got this one under control.’ It’s not really conducive to a good environment when you’re trying to make sure that guys don’t get over. The goal should be that guys get over, as opposed to not getting guys over because they’re not in WWE’s plans.”
