Nikki Bella Responds To Rumors

On Sunday before SummerSlam, a report surfaced online claiming that John Cena went to bat for girlfriend Nikki Bella by urging Vince McMahon to squash plans for the Total Divas star to lose the Divas Championship.

According to “several sources” in WWE, plans were in place for Charlotte to win the Divas Championship from Bella almost immediately upon joining the main roster. The daughter of Ric Flair, along with Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks, would then dominate the Divas division for the foreseeable future. Instead, WWE has taken on a conservative booking approach by having Divas from the new and old regime trading victories, keeping an even balance in the division.

Following SummerSlam on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer did not deny the report. He revealed that Cena’s relationship with Bella has played a major factor in her lengthy title reign since he has spoken up on her behalf when she was set to lose the Divas Championship in the past. Meltzer noted that while he hadn’t heard of plans for Charlotte to win the Divas Championship, it could happen eventually.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bella responded to the rumors.
