The former Dean Ambrose is set for a role in a mixed martial arts-themed movie.
Deadline reported Wednesday that Ambrose — real name Jonathan Good — has joined the cast of the action movie Cagefighter. He portrays a wrestling star who crosses over to MMA and beats a champion in his debut.
Cagefighter “tells the story of a lauded MMA champion who unexpectedly loses a heavily promoted match to a professional wrestling star making his crossover debut in the MMA fighting world. Humiliated by the defeat, he must fight his way back to the top and earn his place for a rematch.”
The film is currently in pre-production.
Jay Reso, who is known as Christian in WWE, is an executive producer on Cagefighter. Deadline notes that the movie features appearances by UFC fighters Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, and Alexander Gustafsson, and actors Michael Jai White, Gina Gershon, Josh Herdman, Michelle Ryan, and Jason Maza.
Ambrose wrestled his final match for WWE on April 21, teaming with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins against Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre. Ambrose departed WWE when his contract expired in late April. On May 1, Ambrose released a video teasing his return to wrestling as Jon Moxley — his name on the independent circuit prior to joining WWE.
