Taishan Dong is gone from WWE.
Casey Michaels of SquaredCircleSirens.com broke the news of Dong’s departure via Twitter on Friday, saying that he quit WWE a few months ago. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com confirmed the claim as accurate and also noted that Dong’s departure happened “some time back.”
Dong — real name Dong Jianjun — is a seven-foot-tall former boxer from China who joined the WWE Performance Center in July after impressing coaches at a three-day tryout in October 2017. WWE put together a video package of his tryout, which is quite rare.
Dong did not wrestle a single match or make any live event appearances for WWE.
Hailing from Lanzhou, the capital city of China’s Gansu province, Dong was formerly signed with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. Nicknamed “The Great Wall,” Dong went 6-0 in his professional boxing career. He also boasts kickboxing experience, including a 2013 defeat of controversial international fighting star Bob Sapp in a “freakshow fight.”
