The Saudi Arabian influence over WWE booking could reach new heights in 2019.
According to a report by The Dirty Sheets, the Saudi General Sports Authority — which is sponsoring WWE events over the next several years — have made a $20 million offer to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to appear as WWE Champion at an event next April.
The Dirty Sheets reported several months ago that WWE officials are very interested in having Johnson face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, 2019, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. According to The Dirty Sheets, WWE offered Johnson $4 million to wrestle at WrestleMania 35. Johnson’s earnings could increase to over $26 million if he retains the WWE Championship through SummerSlam 2019 on August 11 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
This staggering amount would far surpass anything any wrestler has made. Both John Cena and Steve Austin had very successful years in WWE, with both topping over $10 million over a single year. On a per show basis, Brock Lesnar has been WWE’s highest paid performer since 2012, earning $4 million per year. However, no one has come close to earning over $26 million for wrestling three matches.
