Since February 2006, WWE has issued over 60 suspensions for violations of the Wellness Policy. Here is the complete list of those suspended.
In the wake of the death of Eddie Guerrero, WWE announced on February 27, 2006 that random drug tests would be conducted on all wrestlers on a regular basis. Talent would be subject to an average of four tests per year, and a minimum of two.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon broke the news to the talent roster in a meeting held on February 27, 2006 at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. before a combined Raw and SmackDown event.
Deemed the WWE Talent Wellness Program, the testing would detect the abuse of prescription medications, performance-enhancing drugs, and illegal recreational drugs. In addition, wrestlers would submit to cardiovascular stress tests to help detect heart problems. That examination, in particular, was designed to help pinpoint individuals who were vulnerable to massive heart attacks, such as the kind that killed Guerrero. The drug testing is administered by Aegis Sciences Corporation while the cardiac evaluations are handled by New York Cardiology Associates P.C.
Although tests would not be administrated to identify marijuana use, the program was considered to be on par with โ if not superior to โ those in Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, and the National Football League.
Because of the strict procedures implemented by Aegis, it would be nearly impossible to cheat during testing because professionals would observe the collection of urine samples. Suspensions would result in punishment for offenders.
Here is the complete list of WWE talent known to be suspended since the implementation of the policy.
